Holidays again
Sorta. In a way. Not officially but. Next week we have portfolio deadline monday at 9 am and exam on friday. We had last week off but I allready need time off again. I'm gonna try and not be so annoyed and critisising and ... its starting to get a bit ridiculous by now.
I'm a bit edgy today again I guess. My housemates threw a smaller party last night and keept at it way past 4 am even though I asked them to keep it down. I'm not sure if its worth causing a fuss about it or if I should just ignore it. Its not like I'll have to live with it for years. Ah, I guess I'll bring it up during the next housemeeting or something, there should be a time on weeknights when you dont make alot of noice. A little bit of consideration atleast. Just because those two seems to have fridays off rather often it does not mean that the other 6 in this house do.
Ok, pfew. That was it for today, haha. Today I held a presentation and got to say "By combining the interfaces of youtube and facebook - videobook was born" - how geeky is that? Now I'm gonna watch vampire diaries and just relax. Oh, I wore my hair out today - first time at school since I started at Windesheim and all the girls in the class was just looking at it amazed its so long telling me its so nice (and apperantly I should keep it down - but its too long! I just keep getting stuck in things and getting it in my face and stuff haha)... just a bit funny..

A little less conversation
a little more action in the street...
Elvis said it. 6 weeks into Media Production and all we do is talk talk talk talk. I'm getting really sick and tired of it. It's media production shouldn't we be producing? It feels like we are standing on the same spot threading water. We're not getting anywhere. And oh great joy, after the exam period we will be discussing even more. We have 7 weeks left then, will we be down to 5 by the time we start filming? When will we do the editing then? When are we supposed to actually make this documentary when all we do is talk?

Complete chaos
When 7 or 8 or I'm not sure how many we are people are trying to plan 4 or 5 or more activities through groupmessages, haha. Gotta ♥ it. Certainly seems like I'm going to have atleast a few things to do with my freetime comming weeks. We are also going to Brussels later in November, just one night saturday-sunday but it will be fun! Looking forard to it alot.
Incredible!
I have been so productive today that I want to give myself a big pat on the shoulder. I started with sleeping way to late but that was really nice and I think I deserved it.
After that I finished that assignment I missed due to being sick the first week, I know but as they say better late than never. If you want to see the result you have to promise not to laugh: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6310FO7irI
It is not very great but I'm rather proud of it and it has inspired me to want to try and make a better one. Because it was fun and easy to make this one!
I have also worked on my personal website/portfolio and I must say its pretty awesome. Booked another ride out for next sunday, yay! And talked with the huurbas (I had an interpritator haha) about the messy kitchen. You see the schoenmakenschema says that I need to clean the kitchen this week and he had noticed it was not yet cleaned and came knocking on my door and I explained that I don't mind doing my part of the cleaning but I don't want to have to clean up other peoples mess. There is old dryed in food on the bench next to the sink...
I hardly ever use the kitchen, only the gasstove if I want to boil or fry something but that is very, very rarely. The huurbas understood the issue and said that there are people in this house that does not want to keep order and that we need to let him know who does not clean because if it continues he will ask them to leave. He has two other houses down the street where there is students living and those are being keept spotlessly clean. I'm begining to see now that he just wants to keep his tenants happy and he understands that we do not want to have to keep cleaning after people that missbehave and don't clean their own shit up.
I said that I would clean the kitchen tomorrow but he thought I should not need to do that. It seems we are going to have to hold another housemeeting soon to talk about things. How hard can it be to swipe the dishbench of a quickie if you spilled food? Or do your dishes and put your pans away instead of leaving them out with old food in them. Theres no wonder we have pets here and as the huurbas said - if it doesn't change the muizen will soon turn into rats. Cosy.

Autumn in Deventer

It's quite beautifull. Even though it does mean that it gets dark sooner and its colder outside, or grey and rainy.

Buitenrijden!
Yes! Me on a horse again, about time. Unfortunately no picture proof other than that of the horse himself.

Jelmer, not very happy looking horse when the camera comes out.

A much happier horse when we entered the forrest however!

after riding.

Jelmer is 3/4 frisian so now I've almost fullfilled my wish to ride a frisian here in Holland.

I broke the forum!

I was just scrolling when suddenly the forum started shrinking...so I rolled the mouse the other way and it got bigger and then I did it as small as possible and it got stuck!

Its broken, kaputt!
Weekend again
Yesterday I felt highly unmotivated, today I'm feeling quite agitated (working on my portfolio haha). As always theres a natural excuse for everything so nothing to worry much about. My teacher is gonna regret asking for analyses and reflexion, hes getting more than he asked for. By miles.
But this past week or so I have been thinking closer about things. I am feeling a bit out of place at this school. The methods of teaching and the whole set up is just wrong. It would probably have felt much better if I had been here 7 years ago before any University studies. Because lets face it... it is completely wrong, not at all as I expected it. But its not the whole course, just elements of it. I guess it is a bit complicated to try and explain. I'm gonna drop it now. Its friday and the weekend only just begun, happy weekend!

In the industrial
area of Deventer...

They had surprisingly little of value to have so much things. But I came out of there with a helmet a pair of riding shoes and mittens. I guess thats good enough.

I'm taking today off
Its mildley grey outside ... the rain stopped however, but I dont feel like doing anything right now. That will probably change soon enough but for the moment I'm content with sitting in my armchair enjoying my nicely warm room because someone defied the huurbas and turned the termostat up. He will probably turn it off soon enough, but for now and the past few hours its been pumping out lovely heat in this house.
Yesterday I spent a couple of hours in Natuur Park Ossenwaald, walking around the whole thing and made aquaintances with a little cat that was out taking a walk. It was the cutest little thing because it thought that it was there all alone out hunting in the protection of the high grass and the bushes so I started following it for a little. Of course I am not as quiet and good at sneaking on things like a cat is and I was soon discovered so I started talking and the kitty replied by miauuing and then coming up to me purring loudly as I stroke the furr. I don't care if he might have had fleas or whatever (Froukje almost ruined a moment I had with a stray cat in Zeist saying it might have fleas..lol) it was a very social little creature and after we had both cuddled enough I got up and left and when I looked back the kitty was on his way in the direction he was going when I interrupted.

I think this is my favourite place around here.

Yesterday
I visited Geraldine and her boyfriend Jonas in Rotterdam. They had on an earlier occasion payed an architect student (sounds like they payed him off haha, but the guy worked giving tours of the city) to show them around so lucky me got the full view of about anything and everything.
The city was much different than Amsterdam and the other cities I've been to here in Holland. It was interesting to see the contrast between preserving the old and the new. For anyone that missed it Rotterdam was bombed during WW II and instead of rebuilding what was they decided to build up the city in a more modern fashion. There are quite a few ugly buildings some weird ones and some that work fairly well right next to the old ones.

It was quite high (2 meters, I'm a wuss) and scary to walk around up there...

We walked over the bridge and had appeltaart at the Hotel New York then we went on back into the city to the walk of fame and look what I found:

Ofcourse neither Geraldine or Jonas knew who Anky was and there I had to explain alot about horses and riding (like why do you need to train dressage can't you just jump and why does horses need massage sometimes? )... pictures will be on my pixbox in november, I've used up all my space....

Rotterdam

It's growing on me
The little old city I'm living in.

it was a beautifull day yesterday I thought it would rain but instead I got a really lovely walk in a warming sun. It is still rather green everywhere even though some treas are loosing their colourfull leaves.

I like fall.. but time is moving to fast. I have almost been in Holland for 3 months allready, imagine that! In a not to distant future it is time to start thinking about life after Holland...but not yet, I'm not ready for that quite yet. I love it here and I want to live in the now just a bit longer.
In the now I'm on a holiday ♥ but it's not all play. I need to think about the concept for the documentary, how to excecute what we got. And ofcourse I need to work on that damned website of mine. I have the basic structure and parts of it done, I just need to put stuff where it needs to be and edit things a bit. Link - our teacher wants analysis and links, so I'll analyse and link.
Happy holidays to me, I plan on enjoying it to the fullest!

A little tiny pony
I've seen him from the train now and then, at first I thought I was imagining the little white pony living in a little shed in a little tiny rectangle of stomped down grass right by the traintracks. He was hard to spot because of the bushes next to the traintrack but since the spot was so close to home I had to go see for myself.

The cutest little thing... his ears pricked when I called for him and anticipating food (which I did not bring any of) he quickly came to check out who I was .. and to try and bite my hand when I wanted to scratch him.

The barbwire to the left on the picture is apperantly excellent to scratch yourself against according to this little fellow.
Next sunday I'm going riding! Looking forward to it greatly and hope the weather will be as nice as it is today!

There is
Something seriously wrong with my crazy housemate. If you had not figured that out allready. This morning she was cursing to herself when I entered the kitchen kicking a lighter, haha. Then when I was in the safety of my room she burst up the stairs (slamming the door downstairs realy hard) screaming in dutch for once. Of course slamming her own door violently and then the screaming has just been going on and on ad on. I'm curious what would happen if I start screaming in the same manner ... but shes a bit scary so I think I'll skip that.
Holiday
I've been in the holiday spirit all week I think, confused about what day it is (I think wedsday felt more like a saturday for some reason) and yesterdays trip to Amsterdam didn't make it much better. I said a little earlier that I was going to work on my personal website untill it got boring... well. It did not take long before it got boring, haha. I changed the background colour a bit, did a header of the touristbuss in amsterdam...
I have been a little productive today though, I did laundry and wrote postcards. My hopes that the morons upstairs were going to go home over the holidays seems to be crushed. Currently they are playing very heavy bass music so my head is just buzzing. The crazy woman is verbally abusing her boyfriend again it has gone from midly entertaining to very annoying. I feel like screaming myself. The fact that her door has a 1 decimeter missing at the bottom (uhm theres a decimeter of air between the floor and her door) does not make the situation any better. Luckilly my door fits the doorframe but the house is very ...noisy overall. If the girl in the room belows me has people over and they are talking and laughing it sounds like they are in my room.
Anyways, I wasn't going to be complaining in this post... the screaming woman just sort of made me type all those things because she just wont stop. I'm gonna spend today inside I think, it started raining now so I might aswell. Listen to the music, well the base pumping, from upstairs... drink my tea and try and be a little bit creative atleast. I still have a bunch of books to read (somehow its more fun buying them than reading them) and some activities to plan in and such.
On tuesday I'm going to Rotterdam over the day to see Geraline and the city. That's 3 new cities in two weeks. I should make it one new city a week. Den Haah is on the list, Haarlem aswell. Maybe Amersfoort and Appeldorn since they are both close by.. oh and the monkeys are close to Amserfoort I think unless its Appeldorn. I'm gonna add more cities to the list as I go. Back to Amsterdam for sure, Utrecht aswell. Maybe see if Philipa wants a visit all the way down there in Maastricht.
Theres no end to the possibilities! But right now I'm supposed to do a little something.

Find the olifanten!
I googled amsterdam olifant yesterday and got quite a few hits about this artsy project where they put out 100 painted olifants all over amsterdam. The profits from the exhibition, if you can call it that, will go to the preservation of the Asian olifant. A nice cause if you ask me.

Ofcorse now I'm very tempted to try and locate all 100 of them... I saw alot of them yesterday but knowing theres more...
Its time for me to be a good girl and work a little on the personal website we have to make for uni...

Amsterdam en de olifanten

♥ Amsterdam

This picture is just for lillsis, haha:

Towards Amsterdam she goes
And I managed to snatch the shower this morning! Not the easiest since everyone seems to be doing morning showers here. I probably ruined someones morning routine by occupying the shower for a good half an hour (I tried to be fast!) and then I couldn't decide what to wear but I think I ended up with the best choice considering its cold outside.
Now I'm just gonna finish my tea and then leave for the train in good time - AND take the right one this morning.

Little did she know...
So I hurried to the station and got there early...put my headphones in and some music on and didn't really think so much about the time or if the train before mine had left yet. After a while of blowing out air that turned into mist a train tuffed into the platform so I did like everyone else and got on. Mind you - I did sense something suspicious about there because the coupe did not look like it normally does on my train - but ofcourse I didn't think to much of it and quickly grabbed a seat while flipping through songs on my ipod. The train had started moving when I finally lifted my head and looked out and saw this amazing view from the bridge as the train was passing Naatuurpark Ossenwald which was completely covered in dense mist and the ground in frost. Now that was when I realised that oh shit, I'm on the wrong train.
Back and forth to Appeldoorn but only 30 minutes late for class, quite well done if you ask me. Ofcourse it would have been better not to get on the wrong train to begin with but shit happens. Lucky for me the next station was fairly close and I did not get lynched by any angry conductor or anything so all good.

Brrrrr!
I could not belive my eyes when looking out the balcony this morning... the ceiling is covered in frost and ice! The cold season really has begun.
Heading, oh shit I need to leave earlier, to uni in a bit for a few hours of lecture and then I have holidays! Just what I need - now I just need to figure out what to do with my time. Amsterdam tomorrow! And now I have to hurry, my monthly traicard expired yesterday so I need to get a trainticket before I get on the train ...

I was wrong
When I said " atleast we don't have mice" cause what caught my eye if not a little dark mouse fleeing for his life to hind behind the cupboards in the kitchen this morning. Interesting.
I didn't get much written about the weekend yesterday because I was a bit tired. Friday I spent in Groningen wandering around on my own for hours before meeting up with Izzy, Christina, Pauliina and Pepa.

Groningen is a beautiful city with quite a bit more people than Deventer. After meeting the girls at the station we went for panncakes at a Panenkoekenschip and then straight to thestation again to meet Geraldine and her boyfriend.

Izzy was complaining that we were all so touristy but then she picked out her own camera and joined us instead. Sleep we didn't get much of... I sleept curled up on a small couch and woke up with my neck in pain.
Saturday came with rain and even more rain just like the forecast promised. So we were a bunch of 50 international students all rained on to various degrees crammed up in a bus heading for Giethoorn.

At Giethoorn we started with quite a long boatride through the canals of the city (each house is like a little island in a bigger island in the middle of the city.. there are no cars on that side of the water - everything comes in by boat) and then out into the lake that has a waterdeepth of less than 1 meter.

I missed the poffertjes! But I shall get those soon.

Weekend excursion
To Groningen and Giethoorn (the Venice of Holland they call it).

I was not very good at it. I blame the construction, I used to be good once upon a time.

Sunshine & foalies
Since I've heard that sun is good for you, b-vitmamines and all, and that contact with animals is good for you I abandoned the classroom for...

A whole flock of them infact. At first they payed no attention to me and my camera but after a while the foals started getting curious and before long I was surrounded on every side by 3 curious foals. One bit my jeans another sniffed my camera and a third my backpack.

Adorable little creatures! I spent a good 45 minutes or so in their company before I decided to go on with my walk.

A whole lotta more pictures to be found http://s238.photobucket.com/albums/ff296/diie_ana/Konik/

A reminder
that I actually like the fall.

I had almost forgotten it what with all the rain and greyness but then I took a nice long walk (perfectly timed inbetween the raining) and saw how colourfull the world actually is by now.

I walked past the little borderij...and this cute lill goat seemed very happy to see me

She even came up to the fence standing on her backlegs trying to reach me, ofcourse she quickly dismissed me as useless since I brought nothing eatable...

Thats the face of dismissal. Haha

Weird
I woke up at 7:30 because I had my alarm set just so that I could go back to sleep and enjoy my sleep in. But instead of falling asleep again I lay in bed for 30 minutes and think of laundry?! Haha. So eventually I get out of bed, remove the laundry someone left in the washing maschine and start my laundry and then I go back to bed and sleep another hour after which I wake up and only want to sleep more.
I think that JOSEFINE and LILLASYSTER should get better at updating their blogs....thats all.
Ofcourse the dutch weather messes everything up - I wanted to take a morning walk before I have to leave for Windesheim to do the budget excersise with my group but it just started raining. Walk postponed untill further notice (read: untill I get back from budgetting with my groupmates).

Zwolle
Today we were done fairly early and even though it is a grey boring day I decided to explore Zwolle a bit. I figured it was about time I saw something more than the trainstation and Windesheim. The first thing that met me in the city was the Straassenpoort:

Which was actually on my - must see - list. So now I have seen it. I have not walked through it however since doing so would mean risking getting hit by either car or bicykle. I decided to stay on the safe side.
I think I managed to find the city center - de groete markt and the city church.

After I had walked the shopping street to its end I turned back to get some pictures of the really nice piece of architecture that the church presented when I got stopped by two older women. One of them says something in dutch and I reply "Sorry, I'm not from around here" and then she seems to think ok nevermind then. But the other one didn't see a problem apperantly:
- We are talking to people about Jesus Christ, do you know him?
-Yeah I know, I'm not interested. I say and start walking again
-You can still have a relationship with him, the woman says and I halfturn and answer: No, I really don't think so.
Then it hit me, the first religious approach here in the bible belt. Haha.

Then I got a little bit lost on my way back to the trainstation (it started raining so I decided I was done for today) and came across the Museum de Fundatie (also one of those things you should see in Zwolle I think, but maybe next time I should actually go in).

And last but not least I came across a borderij and there was a little ponny! That quicjly dismissed me as soon as it realised I had nothing to offer in terms of eatables.

And thats all for today folks. Ohh, next week I'm going to Amsterdam by the way.

Damned slugs
Seriously... there are nicer things to come across on the floor at 7 am in the morning. And this I blame all on the huurbas that doesn't want us to lock the backdoor and then the moron can't even bother to close it properly. I wouldn't be surprised it it's those kids of theirs throwing the slugs in through the door or something. Or maybe they just crawl in through the door, also a possibility. Eitherway I do not like them!
Happy cinnamonbun day!
A day most people fail to acknowlege. I haven't had a cinnamonbun in ages, well actually since we went to visit grandma this summer. But that wasn't real cinnamonbuns it was miniature ones with some vanilla crap in the filling. I once baked cinnamonbun for my class (we had a class where everyone bought something they baked each week) in 8th grade. They got very popular because I made to much dough to properly fit it on our table at home and instead of splitting the dough in two making normal sized cinnamonbuns I made teaplate++ sized ones instead.
So happy cinnamonbun day, I wont be getting one today but for all of you who will - enjoy. Preferably with a cup of hot tea or hot choco.
On another note. It is now becoming very appearant that I'm living in the dutch bible belt. Churchbells from a distance at 4 am (I actually think it's every hour but it's not loud enough to wake my luckilly) and now sunday as it is I've heard churchbells a buncha times allready since I got out of bed 30 mins ago. Noones trying to convert me yet and should they try they would fail miserably.

Spooky
It does get a bit spooky when I realise that everyone else seems to be out. Living in a bigt old house with 7 other people it's never quiet. But when everyone else is out the house is almost too quiet.
One late night, actually at 4 am, I went down to the bathroom on the bottom floor. The house was all quiet and the kitchen dark, so when I opened the door from the backroom/washer room whatever you want to call it and the guy living downstairs stands there I spook quite a bit and jump in the air my hands flying up to my chest as I go "oh my god", haha.
Tonight is a perfect night for a scary movie. Strong winds pulling at the trees outside an empty dark creaky old house with a backdoor that's always unlocked ...I could be living in a bad horror movie right this moment where the crazy huurbas or the schitzo woman sneaks slowly up the stairs (impossible to do so without making a noise) in pursuit of the lonely swedish exchange student sitting in her room watching a creepy movie on tv. Ofcourse I do lock my door from the inside so they would have to get me outside the confinments of my kamer.
It should be noted that I'm not at all happy with the backdoor, but for anyone to enter through that door they need to go through the frontyard of my huurbas house and pass the motiondetector lights thety have. So for now, I think we are safe.

Saturday night
Johnny Depp falls asleep in the bath with a glass of absinth in his hand. I drink tea and enjoy the warmth my new socks are providing my feet with as the wind is half storming outside. On the tv ... From Hell. Makes me remember that one time when I was about 7 or 8 and the old Jack the Ripper movie was on tv. I was spending the night over at my best friends house and her mother let us watch the movie with us. When it was time to sleep I was dead scared that my friends mother would have the same sickness (in the old movie Jack the Ripper is portraited as schitzoprenic if I recall correctly) as the Ripper and that she would suddenly come into my friends room and cut us both open. I was supposed to sleep on a matress on the floor next to the bed that night, but the matress was close to the door and since I was afraid my friend let me have the bed. Ofcourse we survived the night just fine but it still lives vividly in my memory.
Weird night
I forgot it earlier but last night was quite weird. It started with me going downstairs to the bathroom and then when I came out of it there was two of these:

Sliming around on the floor. I had no intention of touching them so I went back to sleep and dreamt alot the whole night. I woke up a little before 7 ad it was all dark outside raining heavilly. When I came downstairs again this morning the snails were gone (or did they crawl into the washing machine? ).

Not today
That's all I'm saying. The rain did stop for now but in it's place it is now blowing half storm outside. I'm gonna finish my tea, structure this place up a bit so that I can walk across the room without stepping over a bunch of shopping bags. While doing so I'm going to consider if it is worth risking todays good mood over groceries or if I will get by just fine on what I have at home. It does not feel right spending the whole day inside no matter how shitty the weather is however so I will be taking a walk and pick up some more sallad and maybe a little something more exciting for todays dinner. It's saturday after all and it'd been a while since I sinked my teeth into a veggie schnitzel. Will, as always, do my best not to get caght in the wind and blow away - that would be unfortunate if such an event should occur.
In a good mood yes, wanting to read a good book under a warm blankie and feel completely relaxed and ok with it. Monday promises sunshine so that afternoon (while the rest of my class has english) I will head on into Zwolle and lunch at some nice eetkafé (mind the spelling ..lol) before sightseeing the city like a proper tourist.

Happy friday
I'm sleepy, sniffly, coughing and a bit chilly but no less happy because of that. Drinking my usual cup of tea, browsing my usual webpages waiting for when it's time to leave for the train.
By now I have almost been here for a full month, in Holland for little over two months. I've said it before and I'll say it again, it feels good. That's about all I got for you at this point. My head is ecoing emptyness and my thoughts are far from structured. I'm waking up, or working on it.
So happy friday, enjoy the begining of the weekend - I know I will!

It gets dark fast
And the moon travells the sky at a noticable pace...

The picture is taken just minutes ago but the moon is allready hiding behind the trees...

Production Planning
Could be alot of fun, could be alot of things. Is mostly rather tiredning at the moment. Client is vague (he wants something with culture and religion and muslims in the western world but the audience is muslims in egypt) teacher is even more vague and in the middle you have alot of confused students. Me not so much, just a little. Everyone else, alot. Which also works against me since I have to listen to their concerns about things. Or complaints about our teachers teaching skills.
Right now I just wish that we could get started, get past the whole stupid "create a concept for a webbsite we wont even make" part and move on to the documentary that we really are going to make. Our teacher wants us to make a plan and plan in the weeks and what needs to be done. But if you look at the schedule we allready have he wants to controll and stear when we do what. What is the point of us making our own plan then?
Now I'm gonna drop my studies for today and watch footie all night long. Munching on a stommaltijd (steamdinner) with spinage and geitenkaas and it's jummy!
